Nathan Gaudé is our January 2026 Miss Lou Champions Spotlight Champion of the Month, and his story is one that continues to inspire everyone who knows him. Nathan was born with Down Syndrome and is now 25 years old. He lives a life marked by faith, determination, and joy, and he is one of those rare people whose presence immediately lifts the room. From a young age, Nathan has shown that effort, heart, and love matter far more than limitations.

When Nathan was born, someone told his mother, Patricia Gaudé Huffines, words that would help shape his life: never let his diagnosis become a prognosis. Patricia took that message to heart. Alongside his Nana, Roseminette Gaudé, and the many family members and friends who love him deeply, Nathan has always been encouraged, challenged, and supported to become the very best version of himself. That unwavering belief has played a defining role in who Nathan is today.
Nathan has been swimming since he was just 18 months old. He was taught by his Nana, who helped spark a lifelong love for the water. For the past 12 years, Nathan has competed in the Special Olympics for Mississippi, specializing in Butterfly and Freestyle events. His dedication and discipline led him to compete in the National Special Olympics in Orlando, and over the years he has earned many swimming medals that reflect persistence, consistency, and hard work.

Faith is at the center of Nathan’s life. He is a true prayer warrior. Anyone who knows Nathan well knows that when he senses someone is going through a difficult season, he will stop and pray for them without hesitation. His prayers are sincere, thoughtful, and full of love. In October 2025, Nathan reached an important milestone in his faith journey by becoming an Altar Boy at St Patrick Church in Ferriday, a role he takes great pride in.
Nathan has also grown through experiences that pushed him beyond his comfort zone. He has attended Joni and Friends summer camps in New Mexico several times. During those retreats, he found the courage to take on challenging activities such as repelling and ziplining, building confidence and discovering new strengths along the way.
Creativity is another important part of Nathan’s life. He loves to draw, especially pictures of himself and pirates. He also has an impressive Lego and Pez collection, both of which reflect his imagination, focus, and sense of fun.
Nathan is a graduate of Delta Charter and Project SEARCH Natchez. He has been working at Johnny’s Pizza in Vidalia for the past two and a half years. He genuinely loves his job and takes pride in showing up, working hard, and being part of a team. His positive attitude and strong work ethic have made him a valued employee and a role model to those around him.

Nathan is also a regular guest (along with his girlfriend, Raychel) at our annual Brightest Stars Ball, where his joy, warmth, and unmistakable smile are always a highlight of the evening. And if you have ever been lucky enough to receive one of Nathan’s hugs, you know they are unforgettable. He gives big hugs freely and with a sincerity that makes people feel truly seen and cared for.
Nathan represents what it means to live with purpose, faith, and love. His life is a powerful reminder that a diagnosis does not define destiny and that when a family and community choose belief over limitation, extraordinary things can happen. We are honored to celebrate Nathan as our January 2026 Champion of the Month.
